Expect some summer seasonal Europe routes, Scott Kirby stated last week that they expect Summer 2022 to be the largest Europe travel season ever.

which I find as an odd statement. I can't see how it would be bigger than 2019.

Huge pent up demand (and rolled over vacation days) plus some sort of business recovery (unknown if business will stick to video conference or inperson travel), so the yield may not be that great

You can see the domestic travel market in Jun/July 2021 (when everything seemed to be great and no delta variant, but low international travel)

This month, consumer spending on airlines briefly exceeded 2019 levels on a weekly basis for the first time since the pandemic began, according to Facteus, a research firm that monitors millions of online payments. Ticket prices have rebounded, too: In June, fares were down only 1 percent from the same month in 2019, according to the Adobe Digital Economy Index, which is similarly based on website visits and transactions.

no doubt…Europe this summer was only the dress rehearsal before next summer…Americans will be invading the ‘old world” with little or no COVID restrictions in place by next summer .

Personally I'm hoping for Newark to Ibiza, and SFO to phu*ket.

I heard BKK chatter because the country is trying to open up more widely later this year…

I would absolutely love additional flights to ICN, the more the merrier. However after being stuck here for the past 1.5 years, there seems to be no end in sight for the mandatory 2 week quarantine. Practically haven't been able to travel out of the country at all. They relaxed it a little bit for us residents where we only have to test a million times instead of quarantining, but it's still 100% quarantine for tourists. It'd be empty loads for awhile if they opened up another route...

If tourism oriented routes continue to be the main driver of United's revenue for the foreseeable future, BKK may have a better chance of being added back into United's route network since the retirement of the NRT-BKK fifth freedom flight a few years ago. However, with the Thai sandbox problematic and general uncertainty of how the Thai government will continue to tackle COVID I'd say adding back BKK is a long shot - although personally I would love to see something along the lines of an UA SFO/LAX-BKK flight!

While I share the skepticism on a route to BKK.......I do think the government is being pushed to make it work this time. I think people have had enough. Therefore I would not be totally surprised to see it given the recent announcements. I know I am heading there come hell or high water in December (wife is ready to see family). I think others are ready to travel back to BKK as well.

What is the basis for the BKK and/or HKT rumour? The K??

Regardless of whether Thailand opens or not, the constant flip-flopping and uncertainty has pretty much ruined the prospects of booking anytime soon. There’s no reason to trust the government won’t change their mind again. Or they’ll be “open” but still have too many restrictions in place.

While I approach his optimism (marketing spin) I see zero chance of that happening.

I also can’t see a big summer 2022 campaign coming out Oct 2021.

Every UA route announcement thread on FT requires speculation that this time its definitely BKK.

It's guaranteed.
