Spartan Laser Recalc[]
Credit to DarkDragonMedeus for the original calculation. This was fine at the time, but it is since obsolete given we now actually have figures for titanium. Also, ignore the part of the title about John kicking a hammer. I gave that a calc attempt and concluded it's really not worthwhile.
DDM also assumed a thickness for the door which was understandable in the absence of any other evidence, but I will now attempt to more accurately discern the door's dimensions as well as calculate a feat from the Splaser in the same Halo Legends episode. I am going to use one of the large Bulkheads on the Truth and Reconciliation in Halo CE. since the door in question is supposed to be a heavy one.
But before I revisit the door, I will calculate destroying the balcony in this video here.
Please forgive the perspective, I got as clear of a shot as I could.
Outlined in red at 43 Px is a Brute. I will assume this Brute is on the shorter end at 2.59 meters.
2.59/43 = 0.06023 meters per pixel
0.06023 * 36 = 2.16828 meters thickness for the balcony.
0.06023* 77 = 4.63771 meters for its height since this will be a rectangular volume
This will get a little tricky but bear with me.
The red line is approximately the width that was destroyed. I will use the known height to measure the width.
4.63771 /122 = 0.03801401 meters per pixel.
0.03801401 * 400 = 15.205604 meters for the length of the balcony destroyed.
Now time to solve for the volume of a rectangle. Plugging the values into a calculator, we get a volume of 152905331 cubic centimeters.
I will calculate fragmentation, and violent fragmentation of Titanium
152905331* 550 = 84.097 Gigajoules or 20.0998 tons, 8-B
152905331* 760 = 116.2080 Gigajoules or 27.774 Tons, 8-B
Well how about that if it's correct. The Spartan Laser has zero anti feats, and it basically ends anything short of the absolute strongest enemies in both the gameplay, and lore. It's also the most powerful single UNSC heavy weapon to boot. I may tackle a recalc of the door later, but there's probably no point if this is accepted/ the tempered result is higher anyway.
Fuel Rod obliterates a Phantom[]
Luckily we know the mass of a Phantom, which is about 181.1 Metric Tons.
In that video, the Phantom is clearly fragmented, and we typically assume Titanium for Covenant nanolaminate as it is compared to Titanium.
181.1 metric tons equates to 181100 kilograms. Divide that by the density of Titanium at 181100/4500 gets us 40.244 cubic meters of Titanium, or 140244444.444 cubic centimeters. Applied to our fragmentation value for Titanium and we get 77.134 Gigajoules, or 18.435 tons, 8-B.
Uh.....I really don't know what to say. Either I am making some incorrect assumption somewhere, or this could be an outlier? But then again maybe not. Fuel Rod cannons have no known anti feats, and as DarkDragonMedeus has pointed out in his calculations, tanking Covenant heavy weapons /=/ taking all of the thermal energy. After all Joules of thermal energy /=/ joules of overpressure. So this might not be an outlier, and it is consistent with Covenant weaponry being vastly superior to UNSC weaponry.
(Note: Please do not attempt to compare the SPlaser or SPINKR to this in some effort to downplay it if accepted, especially not using Game Mechanics. Weapons in game are typically leveled in their capabilities for balancing purposes. And the lore is law when it comes to UNSC weapons being vastly inferior to Covenant ones.)
Frankly I expect this to either be rejected, or heavily tempered, but that's fine. I am investigating these feats to discern if they are viable, or can be safely dismissed.
UNSC Grenades are OP[]
So I found this where Sarah Palmer stuffs her helmet full of four grenades and uses it to blow up a Covenant Lich., which is 102.8 meters long.
I measured the Lich at 526 Pixels. So 102.8/526 = 0.195437 meters per pixel.
With this we can find the explosion diameter. so 0.195437 * 346 = 67.621 meters for the diameter.
Now plugging this into the explosion formula... since this occured in the air.
67.621 is 0.067621 kilometers
((0.067621/0.28)^3)/1000 = 0.0000140854482655 megatons, or 14.085448266 tons. Divide this by two per the explosion calc instructions gets us 7.04272413 tons.
I forgot to notice that a Plasma Grenade contributed to the blast, so we would actually divide this by five.
7.04272413/5 =1.408544826 tons, Building Level+
So apparently this is a feat for both UNSC and Covenant Grenades, and consistent with showings. I think this is a probable result because both of these grenades have been shown to injure, or kill Spartans and their comparables. But then again, it's up to the Calc Group.
