Job Description

The Asian Affairs Center provides professional development programsfor Asian students and professionals, hosted on the University ofMissouri campus. The center also connects MU students and Columbiaresidents to Asia through volunteer opportunities and referrals toprograms for Asian studies at MU and teaching or studyabroad.

The Mongolia Program Coordinator/Scholar Support Specialist willwork with the Global Leadership Program (GLP) Director or AACprogram coordinators and will report to the Director of the MUAsian Affairs Center. The Mongolia Program Coordinator/ScholarSupport Specialist will work under the supervision of the AACDirector to manage the GLP course scheduling and logistics, supportthe instruction team, scholars and students, and promote programoutreach. This position will require close attention to detail, theability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and workindependently, and a readiness to communicate with diverse groupsof people.

The ideal candidate will have general knowledge of and interest ininternational studies and education, demonstrated experience withsuccessful logistical management of professional exchange programs,and the ability to communicate effectively with various programstakeholders as well as students and professionals from all aroundthe world. Must have some budgeting experience and the flexibilityto collaborate with a team independently as needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a liaison between the AAC and potential partnerorganizations in Mongolia
  • Plan, direct, and participate in activities to increaseengagement with Mongolia for student and professional programs
  • Coordinate the GLP course scheduling in collaboration with theGLP Program Director; this includes organizing instructors’meetings, sending out course submission forms to AAC instructors,and creating course booklets for scholars
  • Serve as the point person for Spouse Program instructor andprovide instruction support, including teaching supplies andassistance with graduation event
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of orientations fornew students and scholars, as well as providing logistical supportfor in-person and virtual meetings, webinars/conferences, andevents
  • Manage the department’s social media accounts for programoutreach, including the creation of written content andgraphics
  • Manage instructor and office supplies, including regularteaching supplies
  • Assist in the maintenance and updates of participant and alumnidatabases
  • Represent the department at college and program events, andparticipate in opportunities such as committees, task forces,working groups, and more
  • Provide training to student employees and interns
  • Perform office administration tasks as assigned

Shift

8 am – 5 pm with occasional evening and weekend events. WorkLocation: On-campus

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education andexperience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparableknowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Familiarity with the U.S. higher education system
  • Preferred experience in study abroad or working/livingoverseas
  • Proficiency in a foreign language is an asset for theposition
  • Experience working in an academic or educationalsetting

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $18.50 - $22.76

Grade: GGS-008
