Of the hundreds of activities to complete in Forza Horizon 5, drifting is often the hardest to master. That's because drifting doesn't rely on speed or acceleration like races, Danger Signs, and most Showcase events. Drifting is all about control and mastering a vehicle's unique steering ability over roads both paved and made of dirt. If you're looking to get better at this challenging PR stunt, here's how to drift in Forza Horizon 5 and all the best drift cars to buy.

The Best Drift Cars In Forza Horizon 5

There are 20 Drift Zones in Forza Horizon 5. Using the game's three-star system, the amount of XP and Accolades you'll get for each Drift Zone is contingent upon how high you score. One-star scores usually offer a low bar for entry, so even if you're not great at drifting yet, you can still check them off your list as PR stunts you've performed, albeit not perfected.

If you're intent on three-starring every Drift Zone, however, you'll want to use some of the game's best drift cars. If you head to the Autoshow from any Festival Site or Player House, you'll be able to browse the lineup of every car in Forza Horizon 5, which totals more than 500 at launch. Select the "sort" option and choose to sort the list of vehicles by car type, then cycle through to the category of Drift Cars.

How To Drift In Forza Horizon 5

With drift cars, you're looking for three things: how does it handle, how does it do off-road, and most importantly, does it have drift tires? All the cars listed above come pre-installed with drift tires. You can also take any car into the game's extensive tuning section and make it drift-ready. If you're turned away by the deep gearhead-friendly menus, you can always just browse community-created tunings instead and apply one that is built for drifting.

Once you're in a Drift Zone, you'll want to hit it at a good speed, but don't go barreling into the zone. If you slide out of it or go backward for more than a second or two, the challenge will be cancelled and you'll need to reset.

As you turn into each corner, allow your car to coast from side to side, leading from the back fender like a controlled fishtail. Applying the emergency break (A on an Xbox controller, space on mouse and keyboard) can also help you drift farther, though designed Drift Cars already perform very well without this added nudge.

You'll score points for each drift maneuver you perform between the start and end gates, and you can start it from either side. Sometimes going downhill will make it a bit easier, so you don't lose speed as you coast around each bend.

Remember that some Drift Zones are performed on dirt roads while others are on pavement. Again, all designated Drift Cars will hold up well no matter the surface, but should you try to complete Drift Zones with a more traditional car, emphasize that e-brake and stick to the surface that's right for your vehicle. Don't take a Ferrari into the dirt, for example.
