Flakey, airy, cakey, creamy, fluffy — however you like your doughnuts, there is a place for you to get your fix.

And while we wouldn’t tell you to limit yourself to indulging just one day a year, National Donut Day is June 7, which seems like a totally apropos way to kick off summer.

The Salvation Army created the first donut day event in Chicago in 1938 as a fundraiser during the Great Depression.

Read on for some local doughnut shops and let us know your fav.

GREENVILLE

Mochinut

The donuts here are a blend of the traditional dough and Japanese Mochi. The texture is unique, at once flaky and chewy with crispy coating.

Find flavors like ube, taro, matcha and black sesame along with coffee, churro and Nutella.

1300 S. Hwy. 14, Greer

Scout’s Doughnuts

Since opening as a popup in 2022, Scout’s has drawn a following with its distinctive layered doughnuts.

That following has only grown with the opening of a brick and mortar in Greenville’s historic Overbrook neighborhood last year. Another location inside Run In in Anderson will open soon.

These are large, but the flakiness also gives them an airiness. Of course, the fillings and toppings will add heft, so consider sharing.

Or not.

1700 E. North St., Greenville

Duck Donuts

This national chain features standard flavors along with seasonal specialties. Feeling creative? You can also make your own donut by choosing a custom coating, topping and drizzle.

Perhaps the height of decadence are the donut sundaes.

3935 Pelham Road, Suite J, Greenville (and throughout the state)

Parlor Donuts

A recently opened Greenville location features a huge selection of flavors, as well as gluten free offerings, keto doughnuts and vegan doughnuts, and dog-friendly doughnuts, too.

The flavors span from traditional vanilla to churro and the uber unique sandy beach, which adds a layer of cinnamon powdered sugar atop the glaze for a sandy beach effect.

1901 Laurens Road, Suite A&B, Greenville

HenDough Chicken &

Doughnuts

Of course you can get your chicken with your doughnuts here, but a box of just the doughnuts is just as satisfying. The flavors change frequently, though you’ll always find glazed and cinnamon sugar.

The apple bacon fritter is a perfect solution for those needing a sweet and salty treat, as is the donut breakfast sandwich. Not for the faint of heart.

126 Augusta St. in Gather GVL, Greenville

Big Apple Donuts & Cafe

This spot produces fresh, scratch-made doughnuts daily.

Family run, the shop has grown a legion of fans for its made-to-order approach that allows customers to choose a filling and a topping on the spot.

Apple fritters are big here, too.

219 W. Butler Road in Mauldin and 3245 F Wade Hampton Blvd. in Taylors

You Drive Me Glazy

Featuring a more-traditional style of doughnut, in mini form. Fried fresh, you’ll find a bevy of flavors, along with some creative creations. Or create your own by choosing a glaze and a topping (or two).

Another bonus here: apple cider doughnuts are served year-round.

122 Folger Ave., Suite G, Easley

COLUMBIA

The Donut Guy

Always check out the flavor of the week. These rotating specials are always creative and unique.

You’ll find huge donuts here, along with minis.

480-6 Town Center Place, Columbia ( has two locations and a food truck)

Chickenbutt Donuts

This shop specializes in cake donuts with fun toppings and creative spins. The Chickenbutt donut is topped with red glaze, rainbow sprinkles, white buttercream and gummy chicken feet.

The blueberry pancake donut with its maple glaze, walnuts and blueberry puree is a delightful breakfast treat, but perfect any time of day.

Here, cream donuts are topped rather than filled.

Choose one donut or get a variety box.

2130 Dutch Fork Road, Chapin

CHARLESTON

Annie’s Hot Donuts

This family-owned favorite churns out doughnuts by the single and dozen. Or feeding a crowd? Try the bazinga, with nine dozen.

Indulgent creativity abounds here, with traditional flavors and delightful combos. The Rockin’ Rucker (seasonal flavor) infuses peach pie into a doughnut form.

And need a chocolate fix? Try the three dog night doughnut with crushed Oreos, chocolate sprinkles and chocolate chips, or the chocolate overload, which adds in chocolate icing.

1247 Ben Sawyer Blvd., Mount Pleasant

BKeDSHop

This spot gives the humble doughnut a culinary boost with unique flavors and proprietary yeast-raised brioche dough. Try the filled Nutella or the pecan toffee, or the cereal and milk donut.

Vegan doughnuts are also available and are equally unique — Vietnamese maple coffee? Yes, please.

408 Nexton Square Drive, Summerville; 99 Westedge St., Charleston; and 3540 Park Avenue Blvd., Mt. Pleasant

Hero Doughnuts & Buns

This Birmingham, Ala.-based shop has several locations around the Southeast. Here, you’ll find classics, but with a spin.

The chocolate doughnut uses single origin chocolate for its glaze, while the unique bread pudding doughnut takes the previous day’s doughnut, soaks it in a cream, egg and brown sugar mix, and bakes it to create an entirely different doughnut experience.

145 Calhoun St. #101, Charleston

Millers All Day

You won’t find a huge variety of flavors here, but you will find some solid doughnuts.

Choose from a basic cinnamon sugar, or one of the three filled doughnut flavors (Nutella, strawberry cheesecake or cookies and cream).

New to the restaurant menu is a doughnut flight, saving diners from the challenge of choosing just one flavor.

120 King St., Charleston, and 1956 Maybank Highway, Suite A, Charleston

Joey Bag A Donut

A spot for classic doughnuts, filled and cake. The variety is notable, but you also can’t go wrong with the traditional flavors here.

1118 Park West Blvd., Mount Pleasant
