SUMMERVILLE — Kouvarius Butler is best known as “Vinnie” among his close friends, family and uncle who gave him the nickname when he was just a kid growing up in downtown Charleston.
Since opening Vinnie’s Seafood & Soul in December 2020, Butler has become “Vinnie with the garlic crabs,” a tagline he’ll happily wear as a badge of honor.

The restaurant has operated out of multiple locations in the last four years — on Rivers Avenue near Bertha’s Kitchen and Dorchester Road close to the new North Charleston location of Ruby’s New York Style Bagels. Now, Butler said the restaurant has found a stable home in Summerville.
opened at 140 Hemphill Court in May. The new 24-seat restaurant, open for dine-in and takeout, serves crab cakes, fried chicken, barbecue ribs, po’ boys and turkey wings. Vinnie’s specialty, like it’s been since 2020, is garlic blue crabs.
